A video game genre is a category of games related by a similar gameplay qualities.For example, an action game can be categorized into many sub genres such as platform games and fighting games Gaming genres can be the same as film genres like horror, action, romance, adventure and many more, and some games can fit into more than one or two genres e.g Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog is in the sub genre platform and action. Or some can fit into three or more sub genres. Some games, most notably browser and mobile games, are commonly classified into multiple genres. Some of the challenges is that is hard to figure what genre a game is because it can be in two or more. "Video game genre study differs markedly from literacy or film genre study due to the direct and active participation of the audience" says Mark J.P Wolf.
